An important step forward for the shipping industry and accordingly for all participants within the seaborne energy transportation. In recent days the International Maritime Organization strengthened its emission targets in a bid to curb GHG emissions to net zero “by or around 2050”.

Specifically, countries also agreed to cut emissions by 20% by 2030 and 70% by 2040, compared to 2008 levels.

Whilst more ambitious than its 2018 Initial Strategy to reduce GHG emissions, it is lower than what some richer countries and small island nations were calling for.
